Monday Morning Message

The Next Ball is Coming Fast!

· 1 min read

Welcome to my Monday Morning Message

The whole world seems to be either watching tennis at Wimbledon or soccer (football) at The World Cup this month!

Hence, I thought a sports analogy would be very appropriate!

Did you ever notice how the best athletes in the world make mistakes and have to let them go almost instantly.

For example... this weekend’s Wimbledon final. Jannik Sinner lost the first set to Alexander Zverev in a tense tiebreak. In a match that big, it would have been easy to become frustrated or lose confidence.

But Sinner was amazing! He learned from his mistake and went on to win the next three sets, and claimed his Fifth Grand Slam Title!

Here's another example! Lionel Messi at the World Cup. He missed a penalty against Austria! A golden opportunity, GONE.

For most of us, missing on that stage, with the whole world watching, would be hard to shake.

But Messi kept playing. He scored twice, Argentina won the match, and this week they are in the semifinals.

Neither player pretended the mistake didn’t happen. They simply didn’t let it become the story. What a lesson for the rest of us.

We often spend so much time thinking about what we should have done differently: The opportunity we missed.

The conversation we wish we had handled better.

The promise we made to ourselves and didn’t keep.

Of course, we should learn from our mistakes. But learning from a mistake is very different from living inside it.

Mistakes are information, not reflections of our worthiness.

They show us where we may need more practice, preparation, patience, or courage.

But once we have receive the lesson, we have to turn our attention forward.

Successful people aren’t successful because they never mess up. They are successful because they know how to recover.

So this week, when you make a mistake...and you probably will.....try not to turn it into a story about who you are.

Notice it. Learn from it. Forget about the last shot! Let it go.

Because....the next ball is already coming.

Have a wonderful week, Colette
