Go get your Backpack
Welcome to my Monday Morning Message
I'm standing at the base of something I've been avoiding for weeks. Not because it's hard. Because I haven't started.
My coach said something to me that's been buzzing around in my head ever since: "Just toss your backpack over the wall first. Then figure out how to get over there and get it."
That's it. That's the whole trick.
Once your stuff is on the other side, you don't get to ask "should I do this" anymore. You already answered that. The only question left is how do I go get that backpack, and how is so much easier than should.
Should is where we get stuck for weeks. How is just logistics.
I think about how much of our stalling isn't really about the task.
It's about leaving the door open.
Keeping one foot on this side, just in case we change our minds.
Maybe we are nervous about that call or that text...looking stupid or afraid to ask a favor....
The backpack trick closes that door for you, before you're ready, which is exactly why it works.
Today, don't ask yourself if you should do the thing.
Just throw your "something" over the wall.
Send the text that commits you. Book the appointment.
Tell one person your plan out loud.
Make it slightly harder to back out than to follow through.
Then go get your backpack. It might be full of surprises!
Have a wonderful week.
