My Brain Has Lots of Opinions!
Welcome to my Monday Morning Message
I caught myself the other day in a full-blown internal critique of someone else.
What they were doing. What they were saying. What they were wearing.
And the underlying theme?
“I know better.”
Cute… except not really.
Because here’s the truth: That running commentary in my head wasn’t helpful, wise, or insightful.
It was just judgment. Sneaky, self-righteous, “I’ve-done-the-work” judgment.
Oof.
And here’s what really stopped me:
That voice doesn’t just talk about other people. It talks about me too.
Same tone. Same edge. Same constant low-level picking.
So if I’m walking around quietly judging everyone else, I’m also strengthening that exact voice inside my own head.
No wonder it’s exhausting. No wonder it pulls me away from what actually matters.
So instead of pretending it shouldn’t be there, I’m trying something different:
Notice it. Laugh at it. And then… choose again.
Because other people’s lives? Not my business.
But my energy is.
And here’s the shift I’m practicing:
Instead of scanning for what’s “off”… What if I look for what’s working?
Instead of silently critiquing… What if I silently root for people?
Because where my attention goes, my energy follows.
And if I’m always looking for what’s wrong—out there or in here—I miss everything that’s right.
There’s something powerful about becoming the person who walks through the world quietly holding others in possibility…
And maybe more importantly, holding yourself there too.
So if you catch that voice this week… you’re not alone.
Just don’t stop at noticing it. Try shifting it.
And if you’re noticing your own inner commentary… it might be worth getting curious about it.
Are you holding yourself in possibility?.
With warmth, Colette
