Monday Morning Message

OUCH! Ever been stung by a Silent Stupid?

· 1 min read

Welcome to my Monday Morning Message!

There’s a kind of comment many of us make without realizing it has a sharp edge.

I call them Silent Stupids.

They’re those off-hand remarks that sound harmless on the surface, but carry a quiet judgment underneath.

“You’re wearing that?” (stupid)

Why did you do it like that?” (stupid).

“Oh… that’s an interesting choice.” (stupid)..

No one says the word stupid out loud — but it’s implied.
And the person on the receiving end feels it immediately.

Silent stupids are sneaky. They show up between siblings, partners, parents and kids. They often come from habit, irritation, or thoughtlessness — not cruelty. Most people don’t mean to hurt. But impact matters more than intent.

Each silent stupid lands like a tiny jab.
Not enough to cause a blow-up — but enough to sting, shrink, or chip away at someone’s confidence. Maybe to make us feel better about yourselves?

This week, here’s a simple practice:
Before you comment on someone’s appearance, choices, or behavior, pause and ask:
Is my comment out of true curiosity, kindness, or necessity? — or is there a silent judgment tagging along?

Awareness alone changes things.
And when we remove the silent stupids, we make space for more trust, safety, connection and love— in our homes, our relationships, and ourselves.

Let’s all start our week a little more awake (and loving).

With warmth, Colette
